Sample Companion Agreement

Just like how good fences make good neighbors, sales agreements, required by the American Kennel Club for record keeping compliance, make good sense. They clearly state the terms and conditions of the understanding being entered in to so that both the buyer and seller know what to expect as well as what is expected of them.

Although we always place our babies with the intention of a lifetime of love from their new owners we understand that there may come a time when crisis strikes and a buyer may be unable to keep one of our dogs, in such an event for any reason we are happy to take back a dog at any point throughout his/her entire life. We never ever want a Wagsmore dog to end up in an animal shelter or rescue!

Because we consider obtaining a companion more close to an adoption than a purchase, we feel that it is important that you know what to expect from us as well as knowing what we expect from you.

To that end, all companions that leave us all go out with signed agreements so we have attached a sample one here.  The key points are that the companion must be spayed or neutered, we retain the AKC registration papers until we have have the certificate from your vet, that yearly health exams be done, there is no running loose in the streets and if for any reason you are unable or unwilling to keep the dog that it comes back to us.  We never want to lose track of any of our dogs.

Very simple.
